"NOMPI"  SRI ANANTHA CHATURDASHI

NOMPI    "Anantha" in other words is endless, the eternal. Hence this festival is the King amongst the "Vrathas" or the austerities observed by the Vedics stretching on the Lord Anantha (the eternal serpent Vasuki) with Lord Brahma seated on the Lotus Flower emerging out of Vishnus naval and Goddess Lakshmi serving at his feet is the actual deity to whom Pooja is performed on this sacred day to pay respects to th Eternal Life which is represented as a part and parcel of this Lord (as Lord Vishnu is the one who Lives in us when our body is alive and his spark of this keeps this body going). It is said one has to eat the offerings(Naivedya)of this Vratha even if he has to beg for it. Let Lord Anantha bless us with long life full of health and cheers.

PICTURES TAKEN DURING RATHARANE

RATHARANE RATHARANE CARFESTIVAL
Annual Rathotsava is the most spectacular. No account of the temple would be adequate without a brief discription of this festival. The fastival falls on the seventh day of the bright half of the month Magha. The festival commences on the Tratiya with the hoisting of the Dhwaja to signify the commencement. On the first three days, namely the Tritiya, Chathurthi and Panchami, in the morning Mahapooja is followed by Yajna; in the afternoon utsava in Silver Palanquin is followed by Samaradhana. On the Shasti, these are followed by Mrigaya (deer hunting) festival when the image is taken in the Silver Palanquin along the prescribed routes, followed by the drawing of the smaller Car, Prasada Utsava and Vasanta Pooja, which takes place early in the morning. The Saptami festival begins with various Abhishekas to the deity, followed by Yajna and Mahabali; in the evening the deity is taken into the bigger Car (Brahma Ratha), followed by Samaradhana, then the Car is drawn along Car street about midnight, and back, and Vasanta Pooja is performed.

    AVABHRATHA(VOKULI)

OKULI MADASTHANA.    Avabhrita festival takes place On the final day,. It commences with with Dvara Pooja, Choornontsava, Vasanth Pooja, , Visarjana of tha Yajna, Avabhrita (Vokuli). In the evening the Dhwaja is brought down from the Dhwajastambha signifying the conclusion of the festival. Mahapooja and Samprokshana are followed by Rathotsava in the small Car.

On all these days, there is mass feeding of people of the community. Everyday ten to fifteen thousand people are fed and on the Saptami day the number swells to twentyfive thousand. Volunteers of the community numbering up to 800 work in a disciplined manner all through the festivals to ensure that they are a success. The expenses of the festivals are met by subscriptions from members of the community. In 1971 an endowment of Rs.80,000/- was created by a leading member of the community for the celebrations of the Car festival. All the improvements, repairs, renovations, construction of new buildings, ornaments and decorations, vessels and the other requirements of the Temple for daily worship have been contributed by leading members of the community from time to time.
